Job Description:

A well-established Zimbabwean processing and distribution company is seeking an experienced, self-driven professional to join in the running of its Trading Division. The successful candidate will oversee the full trade cycle for frozen commodities, from international sourcing through to sales and distribution, with a high level of independence and accountability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cross-border procurement, including supplier negotiation, pricing and contracting
  • International logistics and reefer container management
  • Customs clearing and import compliance
  • Receiving, cold storage and warehouse management
  • Sales and distribution to wholesale, retail and processing customers
  • Managing margins, cash flow and working capital across the trade cycle
  • Identifying and acting on commercial risks and opportunities early
  • Leading and developing the divisional team

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Driven and able to work independently, without constant supervision or direction
  • Strong problem solver who anticipates issues rather than reacting to them
  • Able to identify key bottlenecks and implement ways to improve efficiency across the supply chain
  • Motivated to grow the department further by identifying and pursuing new business opportunities
  • Calm and effective under periods of high pressure
  • Skilled negotiator with sound commercial judgement
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented and of proven integrity
  • Strong communication skills across multidisciplinary operations

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years' experience in trading, procurement, supply chain or import/export, ideally in frozen foods, or other perishables
  • Experience in a role with responsibility for a business unit P&L
  • Tertiary qualification in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Commerce or a related field
  • Proven experience with international shipping and customs clearing
  • Strong financial literacy, including foreign payments and currency exposure

Advantageous:

  • Experience in cold chain operations
  • Knowledge of document/permit requirements and food safety standards (HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000)
  • Experience managing regional transport corridors
