Deputy Farm Manager (Cattle)
Job Description:
Our Client is seeking a Deputy Farm Manager (Cattle) to join their team in Malawi.
The Candidate
The candidate must have been actively involved at Farm Manager or Deputy Farm Manager level in the management of Irrigated row crops and a large beef production unit. They must also have experience in the production of fodder crops suitable to lowveld local conditions, such as lucerne, sorghum and maize silage. Experience in machinery maintenance and game ranching would be considered positively.
Qualifications and Experience
- A degree or diploma in Agriculture and Business Management is desirable.
- Previously held a senior management position.
- Experience acquired at well run and successful farms with verifiable
references from previous farm managers and farm owners.
- Computer skills must include a good level of competence in Excel and Word.
- The applicant must also be strong in their understanding of farm
administration systems, and budgeting, as they will be expected to take an
active role in overseeing the farm's administration and budget management.
(The farm is supported by a qualified financial controller and administration staff who are there to assist the manager.)
- It would be helpful if the candidate is conversant with animal feed formulations and cattle health and veterinary practices.
Responsibilities
Assisting the Farm Manager with all duties and heading the Cattle section comprising of:
- 1,000 head Breeding Herd.
- 2,000 head per annum feedlot.
- Abattoir and butchery
- Grazing management
- Fodder and feed production
