WORKSHOP MANAGER

Position Overview
Our client, a well-established organisation operating within the automotive, equipment and industrial supplies sector, is seeking an experienced and technically strong Workshop Manager to oversee its workshop operations in Harare. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day workshop activities, ensuring the efficient servicing, maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment, while leading a team of technicians and maintaining high standards of safety, quality and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the workshop, ensuring all repair, servicing and maintenance activities are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- Plan, schedule and monitor preventative maintenance and repair programmes for company vehicles, machinery and equipment.
- Supervise, coordinate and provide technical guidance to mechanics, technicians and other workshop personnel.
- Diagnose and oversee the repair of mechanical faults across vehicles, trucks, equipment and related machinery.
- Ensure all workshop jobs are properly assessed, prioritised, allocated and completed within agreed timelines.
- Monitor the quality of workmanship and ensure all completed repairs meet required technical and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of servicing, repairs, maintenance schedules, parts usage and workshop activities.
- Manage workshop tools, equipment, spare parts and consumables, including monitoring stock levels and coordinating procurement requirements.
- Liaise with suppliers and service providers regarding parts, repairs, equipment and technical requirements.
- Conduct regular inspections of vehicles and equipment to identify potential mechanical issues and minimise breakdowns and downtime.
- Ensure compliance with workshop health and safety procedures and maintain a clean, organised and professional working environment.
- Monitor workshop costs and assist with controlling maintenance expenditure while ensuring operational efficiency.
- Provide regular reports to management on workshop performance, maintenance requirements, outstanding repairs and operational issues.
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance systems to improve the reliability and lifespan of vehicles and equipment.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma, National Certificate or equivalent qualification in Motor Mechanics, Diesel Plant Mechanics, Automotive Engineering or a related field.
- Petrol and Diesel Mechanic qualification will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in a workshop, fleet maintenance or mechanical environment, with proven supervisory or management experience.
- Strong hands-on experience in the servicing, maintenance and repair of vehicles, trucks and/or heavy equipment.
- Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults effectively.
- Experience supervising and managing workshop personnel.
- Good knowledge of preventative maintenance practices, workshop procedures and health and safety requirements.
- Strong organisational, planning and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid Driver's Licence.
- Computer literacy and the ability to maintain accurate workshop and maintenance records.
