ELECTRICAL TECHNICIANS - MINING

Job Summary

We are seeking skilled and dependable Electrical Technicians to join a power-generation team servicing generator systems at mining sites. The successful candidates will be responsible for electrical maintenance, fault finding, repairs and commissioning of generator and associated power-generation equipment. This role requires technicians who can work safely and effectively in demanding mining environments while maintaining high standards of equipment reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical maintenance, inspections and repairs on diesel generator sets and associated electrical systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults on generators, control panels, switchgear, alternators and distribution systems.
  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with maintenance schedules and manufacturer specifications.
  • Test, commission and verify electrical systems and generator installations to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Monitor generator performance and identify potential electrical faults or equipment failures.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, faults, repairs and parts used.
  • Ensure all work complies with mining safety standards, electrical regulations and company procedures.
  • Respond to breakdowns and provide technical support to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Work closely with mechanical technicians and mine personnel to ensure efficient operation of power-generation equipment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma, National Certificate or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering/Electrical Technology.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as an Electrical Technician, preferably within mining, power generation or heavy industrial environments.
  • Proven experience working with diesel generators, alternators, control panels, switchgear and electrical distribution systems.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding, testing and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements, particularly within mining environments.
  • Ability to work shifts, on-site and under demanding conditions.
  • A valid driver's license is an added advantage.
