WORKSHOP & TRANSPORT MANAGER

Our client is a well-established and growing poultry business, supplying high-quality day-old chicks to customers across Zimbabwe. The business places a strong focus on quality and efficiency across its operations.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Workshop & Transport Manager will run the transport division, covering both the workshop and the delivery fleet. This is a hands-on role for someone who can keep vehicles maintained and on the road, plan efficient routes, manage drivers, control costs and make sure the fleet meets safety and regulatory requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Workshop management
- Co-ordinate all workshop activities, including vehicle maintenance, repairs and inspections
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules to keep the fleet running efficiently
- Manage stock of spare parts, fuel and equipment, making sure adequate supplies are maintained
Transport and logistics
- Plan and optimise delivery routes to improve efficiency and reduce costs
- Co-ordinate drivers to ensure timely delivery of products to customers
- Monitor vehicle performance and fuel consumption, and put improvements in place where needed
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including driver hours, vehicle weight limits and transport permits
Safety and compliance
- Implement and enforce safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment
- Carry out regular safety inspections of vehicles and equipment, and deal with issues promptly
- Work with regulatory authorities as needed to stay compliant with local regulations
Budget and performance
- Develop and manage the workshop and transport budgets, keeping spend within approved limits
- Identify cost savings and better use of resources
- Track and report on key performance indicators for the workshop and transport operations
REQUIREMENTS
- Proven experience in workshop management and transport logistics
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, develop and lead a team
- Good organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, safety standards and best practice for transport and vehicle maintenance
- Proficiency in Excel
- Clear communicator, able to deal with staff, customers and regulatory authorities
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related field
- Experience in the poultry or food industry
