Quality Assurance Manager
Job Description:
An established enterprise in the agriculture and fresh produce sector is seeking a highly competent and driven Quality Assurance Manager. Reporting to the Group Quality Assurance Manager, the successful candidate will oversee the full Quality Assurance Program across commercial farming operations. This role is responsible for driving compliance with international quality and food safety standards, leading audit frameworks, optimizing cold chain handling, and managing quality control teams to ensure high-grade crops for both export and local markets.
Key Responsibilities
- QA Systems Development & Compliance: Develop, implement, and maintain quality management systems, HACCP principles, GlobalG.A.P., and internal SOPs/SICs across farming, cold rooms, and distribution operations. Establish product quality specifications for various markets and ensure regulatory and environmental compliance.
- Audits, Inspections & Continuous Improvement: Conduct internal and external quality, food safety, fleet, asset, and infrastructure audits across farm fields, packsheds, cold storage, and transport. Lead root-cause analyses for non-conformances, track recurring quality issues, host weekly farm management reviews, and execute corrective action plans.
- Quality & Cold Chain Control: Manage grading, packaging, and cold room storage processes to minimize fruit damage, reduce waste, and maximize business profitability. Inspect incoming packaging and raw materials against strict specifications.
- Team Leadership & Capacity Building: Direct, mentor, and train Quality Controllers, Auditors, farm personnel, and logistics teams on food safety, hygiene, and product quality standards.
- Traceability & Performance Reporting: Maintain robust traceability systems and accurate documentation. Collaborate with statistics teams to analyze performance trends and compile comprehensive weekly and monthly QA/QC reports for executive management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong First University Degree in Food Science, or a First-Class Diploma in Agriculture with extensive quality assurance experience in fruit/horticulture operations. A relevant business qualification is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in horticulture or fruit-related industries, with at least 3 years in a senior management capacity.
- In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with HACCP, GlobalG.A.P., and international food safety management systems.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ERP systems (such as Sage Evolution).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a proven ability to lead teams and enforce operational changes.
